Deploying WeevilsSantee Cooper looks to Mother Nature to help slow the spread of invasive plants

Santee Cooper’s Biological Services group has been busy for more than a year rearing a very hungry assistant–giant salvinia weevils. To date, they’ve managed to raise more than 20,000 weevils that have the sole purpose of eating an invasive fern from South America, called giant salvinia, that has spread over parts of lakes Marion and Moultrie.
